New Report Shows Steep Rise in Seniors Treated for Substance Abuse
The number of older Americans admitted for treatment of substance use disorders nearly doubled between 1992 and 2008, according to a new report by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA). What’s more, the number of people older than 50 who report using harder drugs like cocaine and heroin is also on the rise.

Sleep Variability Linked With Elevated Suicide Risk
Variability in how long a person sleeps and when he or she goes to bed and wakes up, is independently associated with an elevated risk for suicide, according to a study presented June 8 at SLEEP 2010, the 24th annual meeting of the Associated Professional Sleep Societies LLC, and reported by Medical News Today.

SSRI Antidepressants Might Increase Miscarriage Risk
Women taking a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) antidepressant were more likely to have a miscarriage than similar women who were not taking antidepressants, according to a study published May 31 in the Canadian Medical Association Journal and reported by CBC News.
