Journaling for Mental Wellness

Invest 90 minutes in your well-being. NAMI Greater Mississippi Valley and The Midwest Writing Center volunteers are pleased to present a May Mental Health Awareness event. Join us online or in person. Counselor Christina Wassenhove will cover the mental health benefits of writing and why she highly recommends it to the individuals she works with. There’s plenty of scientific evidence that proves journaling reduces stress, improves memory, and helps you regulate emotions. Christina will show you grounding techniques used in journaling. Writer Jodie Toohey comes to us from the Midwest Writing Center and she will pick up on the grounding theme and show you how to use your senses as a framework for writing. She will introduce you to the “free-writing style” and guide you as you try several writing exercises. We’ll leave time for a robust discussion at the end of the seminar. Come prepared with a journal, paper, and something to write with. Time: 18:30 to 20:00
