President Obama has nominated Vivek Hallegere Murthy, MD, for surgeon general at the Department of Health and Human Services, according to a White House statement. He is co-founder and president of Doctors for America, as well as an attending physician and instructor at Brigham and Women’s Hospital at Harvard Medical School. Previously, Murthy co-founded VISIONS Worldwide, a nonprofit group focused on HIV/AIDS education in India and the United States. He served as president, then as chairman.
